(Vinton, IA) -- Tuesday was Day One of testimony in the Samantha Bevins trial on charges of the first-degree murder of her mother Jodie in Palo in July 2022.

A Benton County Court heard testimony about Bevins contentious relationship with her mom.

Kellie Hughes, Bevin's sister, testified that Samantha blamed their mother for losing custody of her children.

The defense says Samantha's boyfriend, Tacoa Talley, was responsible for the murder.

He was sentenced to life in prison for the crime last summer.
