(West Des Moines, IA) -- Free anemia screenings will be available at some Hy-Vee stores this May.

Hy-Vee announces today it’s going to offer 1,000 free screenings in May at select locations throughout its eight-state region, including multiple stores in Iowa and Nebraska.

Dieticians will perform finger sticks to determine if the patient has anemia, a condition where the body doesn't have enough healthy red blood cells to carry oxygen through the body.

Anemia often causes tiredness, weakness and shortness of breath.

Health experts say as many as three million Americans have Anemia.

A list of participating locations can be found here.

Registration for the screening can be done online.
